We strive to deliver high-quality Australian pantry staples without plastic packaging, to consumers.
We work with Australian producers and suppliers to bring quality Australian grown food directly to you.
We feel strongly about the importance of supporting Australian farmers and jobs.
With that in mind, we made the decision to stock only Australian grown and manufactured food products.
When you purchase from My Pantry Store you can feel good knowing 100% of the purchase price remains in Australia to support Australian jobs and businesses.
You can make a difference one shop at a time.
Not only are we passionate about supplying 100% Australian grown whole foods and health foods to our customers, but we also care about our environment.
My Pantry Store aims to be waste-free.
All our packaging is compostable, so you can rest easy knowing you are not impacting our environment with your whole food purchases.
We will not sell or package any items in plastic. Our products are designed to be sold in temporary paper packaging. Once you get the food item home it is presumed you will put them into your own reusable containers and dispose of the paper packaging in the compost bin. Even our bag seals are compostable stickers!
Like most things in life, our story has multiple layers. We are a family-owned Australian small business with a big dream.
Growing up, I was taught the importance of supporting Australian businesses because, let’s face it, Australian business is what provides us all with jobs and livelihoods. So our family has always tried to support Australian producers.
We are an extremely busy family trying to balance work and three young children close in age. On top of that, our son has a severe intellectual disability and requires a lot of additional support and ongoing therapy and doctors’ appointments.
Being extremely time poor, we found ourselves wishing there was an easier way to shop for Australian products, rather than having to spend a long time at the supermarket reading labels and trying to stay on top of who owns companies of our favourite foods. We wanted to make sure our hard-earned money stayed here in Australia to support our economy and jobs, but this was becoming harder as the large supermarket chains pushed out the small suppliers in place of generic brands.
Then a diagnosis of a medical condition in 2019 resulted in me having to surrender my licence, for six months. During those six months, I found myself wishing I could have a bulk food store deliver to my door, but I also wanted to make sure I could keep buying Australian foods. It took too long to search for 100% Australia grown food constantly.
That is where the idea for a store selling only Australian grown food came from. Wouldn't it be great if you could walk into a store and know that everything they sold was Australian grown and owned! You wouldn't have to think about what you were buying, and you could just purchase what you needed and know you were supporting Australian farmers.
Another layer of the story comes from our passion for the environment. Like many people, we want to help the environment, but other than recycling it is often hard to know what to do. We decided if we were going to have a store selling only Australia food, it would be the perfect opportunity to try and eliminate the use of plastic in our society. We decided to sell our products using compostable packaging only, then our customers would be helping our environment without having to do anything different. After a long search we were able to find suppliers for all the packaging we needed, including compostable bag seals.
The last contributing piece of the story stems from our son with special needs. For the past 10 years we have dreamed of running our own business so that we could provide a job for our son with special needs. He loves to socialise with people and we wanted to have a business that would allow him an opportunity to interact with the public.
Starting our business
In 2020 COVID-19 threw the world as we know it into disarray. Before COVID-19, we had been a family on the go 18 hours a day. When we weren’t at work, we were looking after children, attending appointments or running kids to after school activities. We became reliant on having family holidays to be able to connect as a family and have a rest.
COVID-19 changed our life for the better. It forced us to slow down and enjoy life. Having the kids home from school meant we got to enjoy more quality family time. We looked forward to our daily walk around our local coastal suburb on the NSW South Coast. With after school activities suspended for the time being and doctors’ appointments now held via zoom, we found ourselves with more free time. We decided to use this new found free time to research Australian grown food and as a result, MY PANTRY STORE was born.
As MY PANTRY STORE grows we hope to open store fronts that can employee people with a disability, people like our son. We believe everyone deserves an opportunity to work and contribute to society. Most people with a disability that we have met would love nothing more than to be given the opportunity to work and contribute to society. We want to help them achieve their goals. We believe that working together, we can change the future for the next generation. Supporting our economy by purchasing Australian products, creates jobs and supports our farmers. Using as little packaging as possible and making sure the packaging we do use is compostable ensures we are minimising our impact on the environment. And including people with a disability to provide all Australians with an opportunity and purpose.
Working together we can make a difference!
